Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

Watch crazy people jump 90 feet into Boston harbor

Dive in style

While the US Olympic diving team was busy in London, three scrappy American super- athletes were flinging themselves from cliffs around the globe.

They’re vying to win the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, a competition that pits 11 of the world's best cliff divers against one another in a three-month, seven-location throwdown.

Their next leap is off an urban ridge over Boston Harbor, where divers will jump from a platform rigged to the top of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, 89 feet above the harbor and Fan Pier.

Each competitor will have roughly three seconds of free-fall to perform a dive before hitting the water. Athletes will be judged on criteria such as drop, form, difficulty and water entry (the goal, just like using the toilet, is no splash!).

Last year there were 20,000 spectators, and this year’s event is expected to be even bigger.

Suck on that, Olympians!
