Run A Crazy Donut Race

North Carolina hosts the Krispy Kreme Challenge!

Finally, the perfect place to wear that donut hat you got for Christmas!

What happens if you combine the NYC Marathon with 1,000 lbs. of donuts?

Hilarious loss of motor control and intestinal fortitude? Most certainly!

Which is why the North Carolina Krispy Kreme Challenge is a mere five miles to the Marathon's 26.2!

Starting at the NC State Belltower, an estimated 7,700 runners from around the country will make a 2.5-mile run to the closest Krispy Kreme.

And that's where the fun starts.

Racers will then down one dozen donuts before running back to the start … all in under an hour.

Started in 2004, the contest has moved on to raise $122,000 for the NC Children's Hospital in 2011 alone. Pretty great for a contest whose very first running was skipped by its creator (N.C. State basketball player Chris McCoy — he overslept!).

And, no, you don't have to chow the donuts down to compete as a casual runner. But where's the fun (and hyperglycemia) in that?!
