Ping-Pong in Brooklyn

NYC table tennis den finds a home in Williamsburg

Real authentic unironic fun with geniune ironic people!

Low ceilings, gloom and the threat of a rusty shank lodged in your windpipe are what many people associate with billiard halls.

And that’s where, with few exceptions, you find ping-pong tables.

Well not anymore!

Welcome to PIPs, the brightly lit (and above ground) combination art space and ping-pong haven that's home to a mix of hipsters and some seriously non-ironic ping-pong patrons.

Though the space has a decidedly new school vibe, the mode of play is definitely old school. Sign up on the first-come-first-served chalkboard for a spot on one of the three tables. Keep winning and you stay on as long as you can last.

PIPs features two monthly tournaments, a "Ladies Night"(no dudes) and "Best in the Burg" (hardcore enthusiasts). Plus, special one-off tournaments with sponsors offer cash prizes in the hundreds (!) of bucks.

And while we can't reveal too much, let's just say that PIPs, while open since July, might soon start serving drinks of the fun-fun-party-party-woooo variety.

And you know what that means — one step closer to that shanking!
