Luna Park’s Cyclone turns 85 years old
Eighty-fifth birthdays are huge milestones, typically celebrated at nursing homes, assisted living facilities and shuffleboard courts.
And while we love playing games fit for senior citizens, the monumental anniversary of an iconic wooden Coney Island landmark deserves something a little more exciting.
The Cyclone Roller Coaster will celebrate 85 years of serving up thrills and queasy stomachs for boardwalk-goers on June 30, and Luna Park is boasting an all-day lineup of festivities fit for a coaster featuring 12 drops in less than 2 minutes.
To kick off the party (and remind riders that a quarter went a mile further in 1927), the coaster will cost just 25 cents for the first 85 minutes in service.
Celebrations will also include contests, giveaways and live freestyle performances including an egg-swallowing magician, and Luna Park will honor grand prizes winners of their Annual Charity Coasterthon.
So put away your shuffle paddle and take some Dramamine — this party is about to drop … literally.
