Swimming in New York
The +Pool project makes NYC rivers open to the public

We know what you're thinking: nothing puts the "poo" in pool quite like the idea of swimming in New York's rivers
But we may avoid this mantra altogether with +Pool, an initiative to build a floating island of swimming delights that filters river water, creating a giant, fresh-water pool.
Spearheaded by designers with a common goal, the project aims to provide clean, natural river waters for the public. Blueprints propose a layered filtration system that not only prevents contaminants (such as, say, urine) from passing through, but also disinfects bacteria and viruses.
With close to $50,000 raised, +Pool is now in a testing phase, attempting to discover the best primary filtration layers for its floating paradise.
Major fundraising is needed before taking the final plunge, but with enough donors, you could be peeing in public waters within the next few years.
So why not put the "quid" in "liquid" and break out those checkbooks!
