Midnight Hike

Outdoor Bound's late-night treks are easy getaways

Makin Smores

It's mid-August, and it seems like everyone's fled the city for greener -- or sandier -- pastures.

And after yet another workday that began with the sweaty subway shuffle, nothing sounds better than getting out of town -- even if it's just for one night.

Here's your solution: Outdoor Bound's bi-weekly Midnight Hike, a wilderness adventure that'll have you trekking moonlit trails, swimming under the stars and back in the city before last call.

This 2 to 3 mile, casual hike through Bear Mountain's Harriman State Park (45 minutes from Manhattan) stretches from twilight to 2 a.m. And since Outdoor Bound organizes the trip -- from plotting the route to round-trip transportation from the Upper West Side -- all you need is a flashlight, towel and hankerin' for s'mores.

'Cause trips include a midnight dip in a lake, warming post-swim campfire and marshmallows to roast. Take it from us: The world's best foods are served on a stick.

Outdoor Bound's Midnight Hike; $69; 7 p.m to 2.a.m.; Schedule and trip info
